Problems to solve

Sometimes, after seeing a movie people are so amazed by it, that they want to see more similar productions. The problem is that there are not so many websites or mobile apps that make it possible to search a similar movie based on the title of the liked one and not only on the genre. The designed app should also recommend the potential users movies that are alike to their loved ones

Design process

1. Research & User Interviews

I started with the research of movie portals, websites, and apps, then I conducted a short interview with potential users. It allowed me to distinguish the main functions and features of the app which I present below

Simply to use and accessible searching tab or panel to find movies, TV series or directors that the user likes – in next step he should receive recommendations based on his search result
Possibility to watch a movie trailer and read a short movie description
Option to rate a movie (e.g. like, neutral, dislike)
Adding movies to the favourites list
Seeing what movies are trendy among other users
Sorting movies by genres

2. User flows and lo-fi wireframes

The next step was to plan the structure of the application. On the basis of them I created low fidelity paper wireframes

Next, based on previous work I prepared high fidelity wireframes

4. Final Product

Finally, I worked on the appearance of the app. I decided to use dark colours for the background to add a more cinematic look. That could be especially useful when the user wants to see a movie trailer
